The Treasury was part of a thriving trading city built right into the desert cliffs. As a means to preserve the site, the Jordanian government relocated most Bedouin families that called it home in the 1980s, but some from the Semahin tribe still live nearby—turning ancient tombs into homes. Nat Geo Explorer Tamara Merino captured this footage while documenting cave societies.
