Conservative former ministers have 'serious questions' to answer about the secret scheme to resettle Afghan nationals named in a data breach under the previous government, the prime minister said in the House of Commons.

Details emerged this week of an enormous accidental data leak by a British official in 2022 that put up to 100,000 Afghans at risk of torture and death, and the huge efforts by ministers to keep the blunder secret, citing the risk of Taliban reprisals. Thousands of Afghan people – some of whom had worked with British forces in Afghanistan – have been secretly relocated to the UK as a direct result of the leak, at a cost of more than £850m
