Keir Starmer has condemned Reform UK's policies on immigration, saying they want to 'tear the country apart', and adding that Reform doesn't believe in the UK as a 'beautiful, tolerant, diverse country.'
Last week, Nigel Farage's Reform UK said it would make it harder for foreign nationals to move to Britain if it wins the next election, tailoring the system to higher earners with strong English, with the aim of reducing the number of migrants. Under the plans, Reform would scrap the current 'Indefinite Leave to Remain' status which migrants can claim after five years, and replace it with a five-year renewable work visa, which would prevent holders from accessing welfare benefits.
Speaking on the BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg, Starmer also warned that the UK's position as a leading member of the coalition of the willing could be compromised if Reform were to align itself with Russian president Vladimir Putin
