Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday as a category 5 storm, the US National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. Seven deaths have so far been attributed to Melissa in the Caribbean, all reported before landfall. Three people were killed in Jamaica, three in Haiti and one in the Dominican Republic. More than 240,000 people in Jamaica were without power before landfall, and about a quarter of the country’s telecommunications system was offline
