Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he and Vladimir Putin had agreed to begin negotiations to broker a ceasefire in Ukraine, later adding that he was 'OK' with Ukraine not having Nato membership and that it was unlikely that Ukraine would take much land back in the negotiations. The US defence secretary, Pete Hegseth, made similar comments and suggested that returning to pre-2014 Ukraine borders and Nato membership were 'unrealistic' outcomes of a negotiated settlement with Russia as he addressed the Ukraine Defense Contact Group
