This project started with a van that wouldn’t even start. A 2008 Mercedes Sprinter, once a carpet cleaner’s workhorse, was bought for just £1,000 as a non-runner. However, it soon became the blank canvas for Mara Lavender and her partner Connor’s bold idea: to turn it into a fully off-grid, budget-built home on wheels.
What followed was an ambitious, two-month transformation filmed from start to finish, including insulation, wiring, plumbing, solar power, carpentry, and design, all done by hand and on a shoestring. They stripped it to bare metal, rebuilt every system from scratch, and proved that with enough patience, creativity, and plywood, you can build freedom yourself.
This is a project that turns a tired delivery van into a rolling home powered by sunlight, and a rolling proof of what happens when design meets determination.
