Mawazo Christina, a Congolese mother of nine, fled to Burundi to escape violence in her village. She witnessed horrific acts, including killings and rapes, forcing her family to leave everything behind. Crossing the dangerous Rusizi River, she feared losing her children along the way. Now a refugee, she hopes for peace in Congo, urging leaders like President Tshisekedi and the M23 rebels to resolve the crisis so families like hers can return home. Despite the hardship, she remains hopeful for a better future.
She shares her story with Al Jazeera.
